Pokemon on Written Journey
A statless, free form roleplay like ours is based on honesty and the discretion of the role-player. Time is liquid here, so when you're playing, you can think about when the thread was happening and what the character was doing at the time. This also means that you have complete control over the capture of your Pokemon, and the strength of your team.
But wait, what about levels and evolving?
Well, because we're not a site that focuses on experience points or numbers, that is up to you. If you, as a role-player, would rather keep tabs on how much experience and what level your Pokemon might be, you are quite welcome to. But for the most part, we encourage you to consider how long a Pokemon has been with it's trainer, and how they have been working together.
Try to think of levels like ages. Babies would be the early levels, teenagers would be the second form and a final form would be like the adult version of your Pokemon. They grow over time and training, rather than counting, and if they get life experience, they are more likely to evolve.
Working with your Pokemon is the best way to get them to evolve, and when they do is up to your discretion. Isn't that fun?
What about moves? If the rest is up to me, why are they limited?
For fairness' sake, we're limiting moves to four per Pokemon, with one TM per Pokemon. This way not all the trainers can be overpowered and strong. We would rather give people the chance to win a battle regardless of how strong their opponent may think they are.
We won't be moderating every battle, and this way we feel that people will be able to think more outside of the box when it comes to their Pokemon and battles in general. If you are concerned, you can always PM a staff member to find out more.
You mention TMs, what about HMs?
Here's the thing about free form.. we generally think of the world the way it works. So if your Pokemon could naturally float on water, of course it can Surf. That being said, Pidgey or other small Pokemon wouldn't be able to Fly you. Think more logically than the games did in that particular sense. If they could do it, they can do it.
Rare Pokemon still appear in games, so do Legendaries. Can I have those?
If a Pokemon appears very rarely in games (Eevee, Dratini, Deino etc.) then chances are here, it is rare. Your character won't have a team of pseudo Legendaries unless they have been travelling for a great many years. They might have encountered a few, and perhaps even caught them, but they should be part of their story, not just simply so they can be powerful. That being said, think about how hard such a Pokemon is to train in the games, and think about the fact that they probably are just as difficult to raise in a "reality" situation.
When it comes to Legendaries, they will only be given out as special event Pokemon and only rarely given the opportunity to capture. There are chances for you to befriend the Pokemon, but for the most part we are working on a general basis, where it would be very, very hard to capture them, and master balls do not exist for the general public.
